Upcoming Operation Events |
---|
June 23-25 Field Day (FD) Field-day is the
largest emergency communication event promoted by the ARRL with over 40,000
hams participating every year. Most of
the Hawaii clubs are planning outings and inviting new hams to operate. For complete
info about Field-Day see, While most of the
QSOs are made in a contest environment, increasingly stations on the mainland are setting up
Winlink to pass simulated emergency traffic. Messages to the
Section Manager (ah0a@winlink.org) and the Section Emergency Coordinator (kh7ho@winlink.net) earn 100 points.
An additional ten messages can be sent or received for 10 points each.
For details on the
handling of FD messages, see

BTW, here is a YouTube video explaining
how to use Winlink over Internet before starting down the path of
adding hardware and software to your station for "Radio only" email service. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb_cEUyYF9o June 23 Honolulu Makerfaire The well-known nationwide Makerfaire organization
is holding its annual Honolulu event at Iolani School on the same day as Field
Day. Maker Faire is a gathering
of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what
they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire
is a venue for these "makers" to show hobbies, experiments and projects. The Honolulu Emergency Amateur Radio Club (EARC) has volunteered to setup
stations and show off Amateur Radio technology.
See the Makerfaire web site for more information. http://honolulu.makerfaire.com/ Wes Koga (WH6EUG) has volunteered to coordinate the club's booth.
Contact him to learn about their plans. July 12 Oahu Geek Meet The Hawaii Geek Meet is a
free, fun, casual, family-friendly, grassroots gathering for people who are
curious and have a passion that they love to share. Gadget lovers, coders,
designers, makers, artists
and Amateur Radio hams participate! EARC is planning to host a table with an
Amateur station to demonstrate emergency communications. Thanks to Ryan Ozawa, (KH6WEB)
for his helping to organize the event and inviting Oahu hams to participate and
show-off our technology. https://www.facebook.com/events/272991699909470/> Aug 24-26 Hawaii QSO Party Clubs in Hawai`i with interest in HF
operation promote the Hawaii QSO Party (HQP) to spur interest in Amateur Radio. Come join them
in making this year's event another success. Hawai`i, a very special radio
destination, merits support from its Hams. The contest introduces newly
licensed operators to the world of HF, DXing and contesting. Alan Maenchen (AD6E/KH6TU)
on Maui is promoting HQP with the help of a few volunteers. We should note
that besides volunteering to support this unique operating event, Alan teaches
Morse Code classes over the air, skills useful in HQP or just chatting with
other hams. Sep 16 Hawaii Grid Madness Hawaii
Grid Madness is a fun contest to test your radio and antenna to
see where you can reach using simplex VHF and UHF. New hams get practice using their radio equipment and
emergency communication procedures.
The event gives hams an opportunity to meet their radio
neighbors.
Stan Froseth (AH6KO) created this event to promote VHF/UHF simplex operation in Hawaii. It
has made many aware that interisland communication is common if you know where to point your antenna.
We don't need repeaters or Internet connections to provide emergency communications to our communities.
